Parent & Child Education

Well Wired is committed to improving awareness among kids and parents about the potential harms of smartphones, social media, and other addictive tech. We believe that everyone has the right to know how addictive tech is changing our children's developing brains and how Big Tech companies are profiting by keeping our attention and mining our personal data.

Check out our Well Wired events for kids and families, schools, and the community!

Community Building

Well Wired supports families by connecting the community and encouraging dialogue about our kids' tech use. Finding like-minded families is critical when making your family's tech plans, and we will support you by hosting events and opportunities for families to find each other, and make pacts and mutual agreements that involve delaying addictive tech longer.

There is strength in numbers and we have to work together!

School Advocacy

Well Wired is a voice for families in the Bend La Pine and Redmond School Districts who are unsettled by the evolving use of tech in our kids' classrooms. We support tech education in schools and healthy, balanced tech use that does not detract from the hands-on, in-person instruction that we know is most effective for our children.

Well Wired will host school advocacy planning sessions, and we want you involved! Contact us if you want to support our school advocacy committee.

The Healthy Tech Pledge

Give Basic Phones Until High School.

Delay Social

Media Until 16.

Healthy Tech

Together.

We pledge to:

1.   Give our children a basic phone or watch* (with calling & texting) when/if they are ready and need it before high school.

*Basic phones and watches have simple communication features and do not have the internet, addictive apps, or social media. They may also have helpful tools such as location services, calendar, or essential heath monitors.

2.   Delay giving our children access to social media until age 16 (or later).

*The U.S. Surgeon General and many mental health professionals recommend 16 or later.

3.   Encourage our children to connect in-person with their friends, kids in the neighborhood, and with our family.
