Let's Take Collective Action.  Healthy Tech Together.

Healthy Tech Pledge

Give Basic Phones Until High School.

Delay Social Media Until 16.

Let's help our kids be kids a little longer by encouraging more in-person connection and delaying the use of addictive tech that can interfere with healthy childhood experiences. Studies show that giving our kids - especially in adolescence - access to social media, the internet, & other addictive apps on their own smartphone they carry around 24/7 can be harmful to their development & mental health.

A basic phone or watch with calling & texting is all our kids need before high school. Kids often want smartphones with social media because other kids have them. If we collectively set healthy limits, we can change the status quo. But we have to do it together!

Thank you for for supporting this important collective action happening in Central Oregon!

Community Support for the Pledge

If you're a Central Oregon community member who would like to support this movement, but do not have children applicable to the Healthy Tech Pledge, you can still sign the pledge! Your support will encourage your community to change the status quo, and it will add your voice to this collective action.

Healthy Tech Pledge

We pledge to:

1.   Give our children a basic phone or watch* (with calling & texting) when/if they are ready and need it before high school.

*Basic phones and watches have simple communication features and do not have the internet, addictive apps, or social media. They may also have helpful tools such as location services, calendar, or essential heath monitors.

2.   Delay giving our children access to social media until age 16 (or later).

*The U.S. Surgeon General and many mental health professionals recommend 16 or later.

3.   Encourage our children to connect in-person with their friends, kids in the neighborhood, and with our family.

Give Basic Phones Until High School.

Delay Social

Media Until 16.
